Morphing with Cartoons

I wanted to change up the morphing project and decided to combine it with the juxtaposition project. Students had to morph together THREE cartooned images into a real photograph. This created the element of surprise found in juxtaposition. We hope we make you do a double take. Can you figure out what is cartoon and what is real in the images? Morphing their cartoon images with a realistic scene made for a new creative, interesting mage. Morphing is a special effect in motion pictures and animations that changes (or morphs) one image into another through a seamless transition. Most often it is used to depict one person turning into another through technological means or as part of a fantasy or surreal sequence. Traditionally such a depiction would be achieved through cross-fading techniques on film. Since the early 1990s, this has been replaced by computer software to create more realistic transitions.

Redesigning Menus

Eighth Graders continued to learn about redesigning on a grid by choosing their favorite restaurant menu and redesigning it.  They considered different formats and how to align their columns and rows to create a visually appealing menu that would be easy for people to read and attract people to the restaurant.  Check out the new and improved menus below!

Typography -What's in a Phrase?

Eighth grade Digital Arts has returned to the curriculum once again, and they started their semeter with a study of typography. We discussed why companies use different fonts and colors for their logos and brand names. They took a couple of quizzes to see how important color and style is in recognition of a logo. You can try your hand at it too (see links below). Then students were asked to illustrate a common phrase using typefaces and colors only (no images!) They chose a phrase that had visual opportunities to uniquely interpret it. The goal was to come up with an interpretation that explains the phrase, and adds a new level of meaning to it, or makes the audience think about it differently than when it is simply spoken.

Redesign a tennis shoe!

Sneakers are not only what our Sixth Graders wear to school every day. They are an iconic symbol and an expression of one's personality. Learning about layers and color applications, Sixth Grade Photoshop designed their own Nike and Under Armour sneakers. Check out the finished products:
